Lifestyle photography has been an interest of mine for years. But when I found my niche with seniors I ran with it and shifted my focus away from lifestyle sessions. Back in April I took a circular weaving class taught by my dear friend(and amazing artist) Emily. I started the first few months of the year feeling dry and uninspired so I was beyond ready for a creative break, and I was hoping this class would really help.
Well not only did I learn a fantastic new craft, but during the workshop I started brewing some ideas of my own. I was so relaxed and so happy to be a part of the passion that Emily pours herself into everyday, and I couldn't help but long to document that.

There are a lot of different opinions on what lifestyle photography is. But to me it is capturing people, places and things right where they currently are. Lifestyle photography is telling the story of the here and now, and the passionate reasons why.

I asked Emily if I could come over sometime to photograph her while she works.

Emily "Yeah! We would be two people doing what we love together!"

And I certainly loved it.

Emily, thanks for hanging out with me, being a fast friend and for inspiring me and so many others to pursue their passions. You're a rock and roll lady.

I'm thrilled to finally announce the date that NewHumans knitwear Etsy shop will finally be open for business! This has been a huge learning process for me, and I still have a long ways to go. But no doubt that after 4 years of telling myself to make the jump this shop is here and it's making it's doors open for you, as promised, just in time for Christmas shopping!! Who knows? If you're just getting the 411 about NewHumans let me share with you a little snippet of my heart behind this shop...

"Everyday it's the same thing. Another trend has begun. Key kids! This might be the one"

I've been knitting since I was 8 years old and have always dreamed of selling my knits. But it wasn't until I heard the lyrics of this song(for the thousandth time) that it really hit me. The idea that I could not only open this shop and fulfill a dream of mine, but that I could and need to do so much more with it.

"With all of our fashion, we're still incomplete. A God of redemption could break our routine"

In a culture where we are brain swept into thinking we need and deserve more, where we buy and "treat ourselves" mindlessly, and where other cultures are suffering from poverty I believe it's time to break this routine and start a trend of love and purpose with every purchase.

We still need to buy things. We always will. But we don't need to buy things we will just throw away in a year because trends have changed or because it was poor quality in the first place. We need to start buying quality, items to not only support small businesses and hand makers around the world but to free ourselves from the captivity of owning more than we need. And to top that, we need to start equalizing people in poverty every time we buy.
We need to slow down and help them catch up.

This is just my personal tiny step towards helping humanity but my goal is to inspire people to think about people living in poverty when walking into a store. To acknowledge our wealth and where it's most valuable when we decide to shop. To start genuinely treating everyone in the world as equals by loving and caring for them; by putting our money where our mouth is.
I believe that every time we shop we should ask ourselves what we can do for the world. There's a new way to shop and it's just that. To help the world.

To create New Humans we must become New Humans.
